The Raid

The Raid is an Indonesian film written and directed by Gareth Evans, set in the slums of Jakarta.

It stars Iko Uwais as a rookie member of special tactical police squad tasked with bringing in drug lord who resides at the top of a high rise building.

Well it sounds easy doesn't it, but things don't go as planned, they never do do they, and our hero has to fight for his life as he tries to complete his mission and get out alive, he must fight his way, one floor at a time!

The fight scenes are beautifully choreographed, brutal, violent and will probably make you wince once or twice. There is no let up in action as Iko Uwais fights his way though the claustrophobic corridors of the high rise.

Gareth Evans has written a tight script and put together some wonderfully talented people to make this movie, they include:

Joe Taslim who plays the sergeant in charge of the raid, he went on to appear in Fast & Furious 6
Ray Sahetapy who play the ruthless drug lord Tama Riyadi
Yayan Ruhian as Mad dog, you might recognise him from John Wick 3
Donny Alamsyah as Andi, Tamas consigliere

This is one hell of a film and well worth a watch, it contains some of the most realistic fighting scenes in the movies, you can see the same brutal styles being employed in such movies as the John Wick trilogy and 2012 Dredd.

If you like the fighting styles in this movie then give Ong Bak a try starring Tony Jaa, he did all his own stunts in the movie and there's no wire work, the Muay Thai fighting has the same brutal, bone crunching style.
