Artemis Fowl My Review

So, just watched Artemis Fowl on Disney+ and so far all I can say is that whoever wrote the script obviously didn't bother reading the source material (fantastic book), and probably only skimmed the synopses, if that!

The film not only veers massively from the plot of the book but is totally confusing and makes no real sense, and the characters are just so wrong that I actually thought I was watching a film based on a different book.

I've added some pages of the graphic novels and also some fan drawings mixed in with stills from the film.

Artemis has had his character changed completely, he's gone from a arrogant criminal mastermind with an eye on world domination to a normal, well adjusted, if overly bright, schoolboy.

His father has been kidnapped in the movie whereas in the books he's missing and has been that way for a quite a while.

In the movie his mother is dead, whereas in the books she's confined her room after having a breakdown due to her husband going missing, Artemis's relationship with his mother is heartbreaking at times.

Butler and Juliet are miscast and almost just background.

Holly Short is supposed to be a young but cynical experienced officer, she's what appears to be a child in the film.

Commander Julius Root is played by Dame Judy Dench, she is a fantastic actor, but not here, was there really no old grump actors available anywhere that could have played the part as originally written?

Foely is a tech genius with an ego to match, but not the bravest on centaurs, in the movie he's just a wimp.

Mulch Diggums is a giant dwarf in the film, WTF! Though his attitude works and he's probably the closest to the book characterization.

Overall it has a feeling of a movie that was rushed, awfully edited and that no-one really cared , Kenneth Branagh does actually explains why he made the changes he did, read from yourself here, make up your own mind.

If you're a fan of the books you'll be disappointed, if you're a fan of Disney you'll be disappointed and finally if you're a fan of movies in general, yep you guessed it, you'll be disappointed!

Miswrote, miscast, misdirected, an abomination!
