Kevin Smith Pt 3

We've looked at Kevin Smiths early film work and on the whole it is quite brilliant, it gets slightly checkered from here on in.

Jersey Girl (2004) stars Ben Affleck (I know) as Ollie Trinke who has it all, a job he loves, a wife he loves more and a baby on the way, what more could he want!
This is where it goes all wrong, his wife dies giving birth leaving Ollie to raise his newborn daughter, he moves back in with his dad in New Jersey.
This is a very accessible movie, well written, well acted and well directed but to me it's just an average movie, sorry, it's just not what I want from a Kevin Smith film.

Clerks II (2006) follows on from Clerks, returning cast but this time in colour!
If you liked Clerks then you'll like this and there's rumours that Clerks III is on it's way soon!

Zack and Miri make a Porno (2008) is about a couple of mates, Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks, who, to boost their finances, decide to make an adult movie, as you do!
This is a Seth Rogen vehicle, even though it was written and directed by Smith it doesn't feel like his movie, I didn't think that I'd actually seen this movie so decided to watch it, I had, that's how memorable it is, I like all the stars, I love Kevin Smith but this film is just meh to me.

Cop Out (2010) was Smiths first movie not written by him, and also his first movie financed by a major studio, also a bit of Cop Out by name cop out by nature!
Bruce Willis is a cop, his daughter is getting married so to try and pay for it he has to sell his rare prized baseball card, whilst he is doing this the shop is robbed!
So to get his card back Bruce has to enlist the help of his partner, Tracy Morgan, to help, even they they are both currently suspended after a cock up on their last case, so let the hilarity begin!
It's quite famously noted that Bruce Willis and Kevin Smith didn't get on:
Smith claimed working with Willis was "soul crushing", that he would refuse direction, combative and generally unpleasant on and off set.
Willis said that Smith smoked too much pot and didn't interact with the cast.
Once Willis said to Smith "I'm Bruce Willis! I've been Bruce Willis successfully for 25 years! How long have you been Silent Bob, motherfucker?"
Smith described Willis as "the unhappiest, most bitter, and meanest emo-bitch I've ever met at any job I've held down" and "a fucking dick".
There's actually a lot more as well, they really hated each other, here's a little taster of Kevin Smith talking about it at SDCC 2012:
