How had I never heard of this movie before?
In 1994 a teen comedy called Tammy and the T-Rex was released, it starred Denise Richards and Paul Walker, it was a family movie but this wasn't the film that was originally shot, this was a re-cut, reedited version!
The original film produced was called Tanny and the Teenage T-Rex and definitely wasn't family friendly!
Our story starts with Tammy (Richards) and Michael (Walker), sweethearts who are just embarking on their romantic journey together, there's only one problem, Tammy's ex Billy who's over possessive can't get it through his head that him and Tammy are over!
The ever jealous Billy decides he needs to eliminate the opposition, after beating up Michael and throwing him into the boot of his car he then proceeds to take him to a big cat park (a handy big cat park where you can find lions, cheetahs and panthers all living together, and with such bad security that anyone can just drive in in the middle of the night!) and dump him!
After being mauled by a lion Michael is rushed to hospital and is in a coma, enter the mad scientist who fakes Michaels death and kidnaps him so he can transplant his brain into a mechanical T-Rex!
Stewart Rafill the writer/director said he got the idea for the film because he was offered access to an animatronic T-Rex if he wanted to use it, so he banged out a script in a few weeks, the locations, cast and crew were also sorted in the same period.
Throughout filming Rafill kept asking the cast and crew if they could think of anything better whenever they shot a scene!
I loved this movie, it was an unexpected little gem, it's gory, rude, silly and laugh out loud funny, the tongue was firmly in the cheek when they made this and I'm betting they had a blast doing it!
