Tunnels Rats was a story about a special unit in the Vietnam war that was sent out to hunt down the Viet Cong, man to man, in the endless tunnels in the Vietnamese jungles. I have to admit that I hadn't seen this one, so I'm watching it now, though it did win Boll another Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Director! Update: watched the film and got bored half way through, what I thought might be a tense and claustrophobic thriller turned into a dysfunctional squad in Vietnam snoozefest!
Next up comes Far Cry, another of Boll's video game adaptations, and it's at the same standards as the rest and stars Boll regulars Michael Pare and Udo Kier, as well as Craig Fairbrass! A story of an ex-special forces soldier, Til Schweiger, hired to investigate a top secret military base, sounds exciting, it isn't!
In 2009 Boll releases 3 more films, including what is regarded one of his best (though from his previous track record there's not a lot of competition!).
Rampage is good low budget movie, well paced, well acted and a good story with a bit of a twist, and I'd definitely say that it's better than the Rock's 2018 film of the same name!
Stoic is a good, if a bit raw (which adds to the overall ambiance) movie, that is quite tense and based on a true story. Boll and the actors do a good job telling the story of 4 guys in prison, 3 of which brutalise the 4th in a violent and graphic way. This has the claustrophobic feel that was missing from Tunnel Rats, and is worth a watch.
Attack on Dafur won the Best International Film Award at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival so it can't be that bad, can it? I have to hold my hands up on this one, I did start to watch it but the opening sequence is shot in really bad handycam mode for no apparent reason, so I switched it off! It tells the story of a group of journalists reporting on reports that the Sudanese launched a chemical attack in the Dafur region.
2010 released The Final Storm (awful) and Max Schmeling (ok, the actual true story of the boxer is really interesting, his rise, fall and rise again), both available on Prime if you're so inclined!
